The importance of doing stuff that stretches you cannot be overstated. It is through stretching that you learn you can change that you realize that your actions can have a significant impact on your environment and that you can determine your trajectory.

Paying attention is vital within the space between stimulus and response. It ensures ongoingness within our desired connections.
- What has your attention in this moment?
- What are you aware of?
- What are you giving time and energy to?
What has your attention in this moment? Will you allow yourself to a singular focus?
(This is how we ensure connection to what matters most + minimize distraction.)
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

How to practice focusing your attention:
- Meditation: meditation is the art of focusing attention
- Goal-setting: achieving a goal gives a boost that increases motivation and focuses attention
- Being in flow: look for activities that are beyond your current capability but not outside your potential

Paying attention deepens our experience of connection with others.

I suffered through my most profound depression from 2020-2022. Through art therapy, I realized that my body had been storing emotions from a lifetime of trauma and loss. It became my priority to set aside time and energy, and give my [attention] to my well-being.
Through my right brain planning practice (which includes prayer, meditation and spiritual direction), I realized the extent of my trauma-related symptoms.
- Within this realization I was able to track the progression of denial > anger > bargaining; but the continual cycling through these three aspects of recovery kept me in depression (instead of moving beyond the losses I had experienced).
Part of my intention by choosing [latitude] as my guide word was to inspire trying. Setting goals, doing tasks, speaking truth and experimenting with therapies that would stretch me.
Braveheart, claiming everything (the stuff we like and dislike) that makes up our wild and precious life empowers us to life free and to make wise choices.
- This is how we foster attention and stretch — it is how we “learn [we] can change [through our] actions … and “determine your trajectory” (Kitty Chisholm).
